What's different about this year's contest?

This year, contestants will have the opportunity to choose the subject of their entry. They can choose from:

  • The importance of wearing a safety belt
  • No texting while driving
  • Staying focused to prevent distracted driving

This year, a total of 25 National Winners will be selected from across the country.

Poster contestants need to be age 6-18 to enter.

Video contestants need to be age 14-18 to enter.

Can we include the GEICO icons in our posters?

No. Unfortunately, contestants are not allowed to use the GEICO Gecko, the Caveman, or Kash (the stack of money with the googly eyes) in their posters.

In addition, contestants are also prohibited from using GEICO's common phrases such as, “15 minutes can save you 15% or more” or “It's so easy a caveman can do it”.

What is the deadline for the contest?

All posters, videos and computer generated art are to be postmarked by January 6, 2012 EST. Any incoming entries past this deadline will be disqualified.

Who can enter the contest?

Anyone who falls into the elementary, middle and high school grades are eligible to enter the poster contest. Public, private and homeschooled students are all encouraged to apply!

Poster contestants need to be age 6-18 to enter.

Video contestants need to be age 14-18 to enter.

Please remember that the person whose name is on the entry form is considered the contestant. A group of students may not enter the contest together.

Is there anything I am NOT allowed to include in my poster or video?

Yes, good question! Here is a list of things that are prohibited from all participating art:

  • Any brand logos or images (including GEICO's)
  • GEICO's icons and famous phrases/catch-lines (this includes the Gecko, Caveman, Kash, the Pothole and any other GEICO characters from our commercials)
  • Violence, obscenities, inappropriate language, blood/gore

One thing to keep in mind : If you are including a seatbelt in your artwork, please be sure to convey proper seat-belt procedure and usage (for example, the seatbelt should be worn across the chest and across your lap – no other seatbelt usage will be accepted).

Not following the above guidelines will result in your artwork being disqualified.

Can a group of students submit an entry?

No. There can only be one contestant and one winner for each piece of artwork. The student's whose name is on the application is the student who has entered the contest.

Does my poster have to be a certain size?

Yes. This applies to both hand-drawn and computer-generated posters. Both must be on that is 11x17 in size. The posters can be either be horizontal or vertical.
