GEICO 2009 Safety Belt Poster Official Rules

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. a purchase will not increase an entrant's chance of winning. CONTEST OPEN TO UNITED STATES CITIZENS WHO ARE SIX TO EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD. CONTEST VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.


1. Contest Description
GEICO 2009 Safety Belt Poster Official Rules (the "Contest") is a skill contest where submissions will be accepted beginning on September 15, 2009 and ending at 11:59 P.M. (ET) on January 15, 2010 (“Submission Period”). Contest entrants may submit an original poster piece of artwork that emphasizing the importance of using safety (“Poster”). Posters cannot use any brand-name logo including GEICO, or any of GEICO icon including, the Gecko, the Caveman, or Kash (pile of dollar bills with eyeballs on top). Posters and completed registration forms must be received between September 15, 2009 and January 15, 2010 to be eligible. All Posters will be initially reviewed for appropriate content and adherence to contest rules by GEICO's Entry Review Panel. Posters that do not comply with all of the Poster Requirements listed in the Official Rules will be disqualified. Posters that have not been disqualified will be categorized by region, age group, and category (hand-crafted or computer generated) and judged by GEICO Judging Committee to determine the regional and Grand Prize winners.

2. Eligibility
The Contest is open to public, private and home-school students who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia . Entrants must be six (6) to eighteen (18) years of age at the time of entry. Entrants must have the permission of their parent or legal guardian to enter the Contest. Void where prohibited by law. Employees of GEICO, its affiliates, their advertising or promotional agencies and immediate family members of such employees and persons living in the same household as such employees are not eligible to win. Eligibility may be verified at any time.

3. Entry Process
Complete the following steps to submit your Poster and enter the Contest:

(a) Fill out an official entry form and tape it securely to the back of the Poster. Entry forms are available here at GEICO Safety Belt Poster & Video Contest. Posters without an entry form cannot be considered and will be disqualified.

(b) Mail your Poster and filled out official entry form to GEICO at:

(c) Upon submission, Poster becomes the property of GEICO. Submitted Posters will not be returned.

4. Poster Requirements
All Posters must meet the following requirements and specifications to be eligible:

(a) All Posters, including computer-generated artwork, must be printed on 11" x 17" size paper, either vertical or horizontal alignment.

(b) Color or black and white entries are acceptable.

(c) Any two-dimensional medium, including but limited to charcoal, watercolor, marker, or cut-and-paste is acceptable.

(d) Poster must illustrate a regulation safety belt, with both lap and shoulder strap.

(e) Any Poster depicting pain, injury or death in their artwork will be disqualified.

(g) Bodiless heads should not be depicted.

(h) Poster should include the entire body with proper usage of a safety belt in the artwork.

5. GEICO's Rights to Disqualify
At any time during the Contest, GEICO reserves the right, in its sole and unfettered discretion, to disqualify and remove any Poster that potentially or actually infringes any third party's copyright(s) or trademark(s). At any time during the Contest, GEICO reserves the right, in its sole and unfettered discretion, to disqualify any Poster that it believes contains any inappropriate content, infringes the rights of any third party, holds GEICO in a negative light or is not in keeping with GEICO's image or otherwise does not meet any other requirement in these Official Rules.

6 . Round One: Regional Winner Selection and Notification
Each eligible Poster will be judged by the GEICO Judging Committee consisting of a panel of experts in the fields of art and highway safety. Posters will be judged on originality, clarity of message and quality of artwork. During Round One, each Poster will be categorized by Region and Age Group, except for computer-generated Posters which are a single, separate category where entrants of all ages and all geographic locations in the U.S. compete. For each of the eight Regions, GEICO Judging Committee will select one first, one second, and one third place regional winner for each of the four Age Groups. A total of ninety-six (96) Regional Winners will be selected. The eight Regions: 1) Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, District of Columbia and West Virginia; 2) Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Vermont; 3) Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee; 4) Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin; 5) Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington; 6) Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, Idaho, and Wyoming; 7) Florida; 8) North Carolina, and Virginia. The four Age Groups are: 1) six to eight years old; 2) nine to eleven years old; 3) twelve to fifteen years old; and 4) sixteen to eighteen years old. Decision of the GEICO Judging Committee will be final.

Regional Winners will be notified by phone or mail using the contact information provided on the Entry Form. In the event that an Entrant's mailing address or telephone number changes during the Contest Period, it is entrant's responsibility to notify GEICO of such change. All winners will be provided with an Affidavit of Eligibility and a Liability and Publicity Release which they and their parent or legal guardian will be required to sign and have notarized and return to GEICO within the time specified in the notification letter or the potential winner may be disqualified and the Prize may be forfeited. By returning the completed Affidavit of Eligibility, the Entrant attests to the authenticity of his/her Poster. In the event that any Prize notification is undeliverable, GEICO is unable to contact a potential winner, or response to a Prize notification is not received within five (5) days of its issuance, the Prize may be forfeited. If the Prize is forfeited, another Poster chosen by the GEICO Judging Committee will be deemed the winner.

7. Round Two: Grand Prize Winner Selection and Notification
The first place Round One Regional Winners' Posters in each Age Group – thirty-two (32) total - will be eligible to participate in a second round of judging and compete for the four (4) Grand Prizes for each of the four Age Groups (“Round Two”). Each Poster eligible for Round Two will be judged on originality, clarity of message and quality of artwork by the GEICO Judging Committee. The GEICO Judging Committee will select one Grand Prize winner for each Age Group. The GEICO Judging Committee will also select one (1) Grand Prize Winner for the computer-generated Posters. Decision of the GEICO Judging Committee will be final.

The Round Two and Computer-Generated Poster Grand Prize Winners will be notified by phone or mail using the contact information provided on the Entry Form. In the event that an Entrant's mailing address or telephone number changes during the Contest Period, it is entrant's responsibility to notify GEICO of such change. 8. Prizes
Thirty-two (32) Regional First Place Prizes of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150) each.

Thirty-two (32) Regional Second Place Prizes of one hundred dollars ($100) each.

Thirty-two (32) Regional Third Place Prizes of fifty dollars ($50) each.

For hand-crafted Posters, four (4) Grand Prize Packages of five hundred dollars ($500) to the Entrant and an additional five hundred dollars ($500) for the Entrant's school. In the event that a hand-crafted Poster Grand Prize Winner is home-schooled, the five hundred dollars ($500) will be given to a local art program benefiting children in the Entrant's local community chosen by GEICO in its sole discretion

For the computer-generated Poster category, one (1) Grand Prize of six hundred and fifty dollars ($650).

Prize will be awarded in the name of the person who completes the Poster entry form ONLY. Winners will be solely responsible for all fees and taxes (federal, state, local and/or income) associated with the acceptance of the prizes and all expenses not listed related to acceptance and use of the prize. Winners may be required to furnish appropriate tax documentation. GEICO will report the value of prizes on Form 1099, if applicable. The Form 1099 will be issued to the winner and a copy will be filed with the Internal Revenue Service. No transfer, substitution, assignment or cash equivalent redemption of prize permitted, except by GEICO, which reserves the right to substitute a prize, in whole or in part, for one of comparable or greater value due to unavailability or for any reason, as solely determined by GEICO.

Prize winners and their parent or legal guardian will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and liability/publicity release form (except where prohibited) prior to receipt of a Prize.

9 . Entrant Permissions
(a) By submitting an entry, all entrants irrevocably transfer and assign to GEICO all right, title, and interest in the Poster (including, without limitation, the copyright and any other intellectual property rights) in any and all media whether now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, anywhere in the world, with the right to make any and all commercial or other uses thereof, including, editing, adapting, publishing, displaying or modifying the Poster.

(b) By participating in this Contest, entrants grant permission to GEICO to use their names, likenesses, photographs, voices, sounds and/or biographical information and Posters in connection with the Contest and for any and all advertising, publicity and promotional purposes relating to the Contest without additional compensation.

10. Limitation of Liability
By entering into this Contest, entrants hereby release and discharge GEICO, and its affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, agents, representatives, independent contractors, officers, employees and directors from and against any and all claims, liabilities, costs, damages and expenses of any kind arising out of or relating to their participation in this Contest, their use or acceptance of any prize, the use by GEICO of any Posters submitted by entrants and/or any actions or decisions of GEICO in connection with the conduct and administration of this Contest. Entrants hereby waive any right to seek injunctive or other equitable relief in connection with any claim against GEICO, or any of its their affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, agents, representatives, independent contractors, officers, employees and directors.

GEICO has taken reasonable measures to prevent multiple voting by an individual in any particular category. However, GEICO is not responsible in the event of the occurrence of multiple voting by any individual.

11. Miscellaneous
This Contest is governed by and subject to the laws of the United States . All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. The Contest is void where prohibited by law. The decisions of GEICO are final and binding in all matters relating to this Contest.

12. Winners' Lists
The names of the winners in each category and the Grand Prize winner will be posted on the Website on or about April 2010.
